Unlike other vendors that have disabled major features in their software in order to bring their price down to a competitive level, we are determined to give you a full-featured hardware and software combination for a price half of that of our competitors.
For example, one major USB Analyzer vendor has 'dumbed down' its software to only display the 'application layer' in an attempt to get their entry-level price down to our level. What this means is that they are in fact not displaying any USB Protocol Information at all since no Packets or Transactions are included in the captured traces. In order to view the full Transaction and Packet information you will need to pay them three times the price of our 1480A unit. In fact, this 'application layer' information can be retrieved via one of the many very cheaply available "Software USB Analyzers" that are available on the market for around $100 (but these do not show any actual USB Bus Protocol information like transactions or low-level packet information). In short, without the low-level protocol information, a hardware USB Analyzer is not useful. Be careful to review the features you get before buying a crippled down version of one of these dumbed down Protocol Analyzers. Our 1480A USB Protocol Analyzer includes professional-grade software with all features enabled. Now, full OTG decoding is also included.
Another large vendor has removed vital features such as real-time capturing, protocol filtering and descriptor decoding in order to be able to sell you a cheaper, 'crippled', version of their hardware/software. Having a USB Analyzer without being able to see the device descriptor information is very limiting. Even with this crippled software they are still twice as expensive than our full-featured package. When buying a solution from this vendor that is comparable to ours their price rises to over three times our price. Our 1480A software includes full USB standard Descriptor decoding as well as a full USB protocol display down to the packet and lowest link signaling layers. Detailed OTG VBus monitoring with nano-second resolution will also allow you to capture spikes and other noise on the USB power lines.
Finally, a third vendor sells its solution for three times our price with a much less advanced Protocol Decoding engine. If you compare the software carefully you'll see that you want an hierarchical Protocol display that shows you the Packet, Transaction as well as Device Request layers in an easy to understand Tree View. Without a logical ordering of the information in a tree view you'll find yourself looking at millions of packets in a flat hierarchy!
In summary; we are determined to offer as good or better USB Protocol Analyzer hardware and software solution for half the price. This is possible because of our dedicated small team of engineers with over 20 years of electronics and software experience. With no large marketing and sales organization on our backs we are able to sell directly Engineer-to-Engineer and pass on the savings to you.
